DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: Last week business was limited at best, the few deals
that were reported had Southern live deals marked at $249 in Kansas, $3
higher, than the previous week's weighted average, in Texas sales were sold
at $246, $1 higher than the prior week's weighted average. Northern dressed
trade ranged from $385 to $389, steady to $4 higher than the weighted
averages of the week before. According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter
Cattle Negotiated Purchase Summary reports the weekly accumulated weighted
averages were recorded as: KS $246.00($245.82); NE $No Test($384.82); TX
$246.00 ($245.33); IA $No Test($384.19); CO was not available due to
confidentiality. (the prior week's weighted averages are listed in
parentheses). Due to the very light, late week trade weighted averages were
not available for Nebraska and Iowa, and will likely be higher in Kansas when
summaries are released a little later this morning.
The Friday afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists week-to-date
trade volume totals as: KS 480; NE 891; TX 2,686; IA 1,714; and CO not
available due to confidentiality. Due to the extremely late week scattered
business, trade volume totals will hopefully be higher when the summary
reports are released. According to the Daily Livestock and Poultry Slaughter
Report, Friday's slaughter totaled 83,000 head, 13,000 below the prior week,
and 12,000 less than a year ago. Saturday's kill was estimated at 4,000 head,
bringing the weekly total to 512,000 head, down 21,000 from the previous
week, and 52,000 under 2025. The weekly average for boxed beef cutouts and
boxed beef cuts: choice $382.48(-9.79), select $383.98(-6.11), with an
average choice/select spread of $-3.19(-3.69), a total load count including
cuts, trimmings, and grinds was 582(+94), (Changes from the prior week are
listed in parentheses).
For the week ending April 04, 2026, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in the
U.S. totaled 60,591, 95.52% of the previous week and 99.87% of the 4-week
average.
NOTE: JBS, Greely, CO workers ratified a tentative two-year collective
bargaining agreement. UFCW Local 7 workers union says the tentative agreement
will increase wages, defend workers against increases in health care costs
and protects workers from having to pay for personal protective equipment.
DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It looks to be a typically quiet Monday morning, with
both packers and producers busy taking inventory and preparing for the week
ahead. Bids and asking prices have yet to be established, and significant
trade volume will probably be delayed until later in the week. Beef cutouts
are expected to be lower with light box movement.
